Phase one of the Macklin Business Institute at Montgomery College offers an honors and mentoring program to sophomore-year business students. The college-wide program includes participation in business honors courses, a mandatory seminar each week, and mentoring by both a faculty member and a corporate executive. A business internship and scholarship support will also be available to students accepted into the Institute.
As a result of a generous endowment by Gordon and Marilyn Macklin and the vision of Dr. Charlene Nunley, MC President and her staff, Montgomery College is able to offer our outstanding business transfer students this very special program.
Mr. Macklin is a financial advisor, currently serving on the Board of Directors of MCI/WorldCom, MedImmune, Inc. and many other public companies. He spent 1970-1987 as President of the National Association of Securities Dealers, which owned the NASDAQ stock exchange.
Why Montgomery College?
Obvious!
Mr. & Mrs. Macklin know
a good investment when they see one!
How will it work?
What are the Benefits of entering
the
Macklin Business Institute?
After completion of your freshman year of work in one of our business transfer curricula you will enter a sophomore year program which will include Honors work in Economics, Statistics and other core business courses, both faculty and corporate executive mentoring and a business internship.
Students admitted to the program (application information) will, in their sophomore year, be offered a scholarship benefit that covers the full-time (in-county) cost of tuition and fees (up to 15 credit hours per semester.)
Mentoring & Internship
Each student will be assigned a faculty mentor who will provide guidance and share knowledge leading to success in school. A mentoring relationship with a local corporate executive will also be created for each student who participates in the Institute program. This mentoring relationship will include an internship where the student will be offered a real-world view of corporate business in action.
Internships offer career exploration and provide a hands
on experience. Students who complete internships are more marketable and
may sometimes even be led into a permanent job. A student intern also has
the chance to develop good references and has the opportunity for networking.
Students will acquire experience and skills that will enhance their personal
growth and development and at the same time legitimize theoretical classroom
learning and provide feedback in real world terms.
