Simona Assenova (b. 1980) is originally from Bulgaria.She arrived in the U.S. in the fall of 1997, graduated with honors from Palo Alto High School, CA, in June 1998, and earned the following awards:
Distinguished Scholar Award, Pali Alumni Scholarship, History/Social Science Commendation, and Rachel H. Austin Award in German. She was also listed in the 32nd Edition of WHO’S WHO Among American High School Students, an annual publication of the biographies of 5% of the nation’s top students. She has earned an MC scholarship as well as recognition for academic excellence. Aside from being a full-time student, Simona works as a translator for the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars, as a part-time researcher for the Smith Richardson Foundation (located in Westport, CT), and as a researcher for a Ph.D. student. In the fall of 1999, she will begin work as a student assistant to Dr. Paula Matuskey, Dean of Social Sciences at Takoma Park Campus. Simona is currently organizing an International Student Club at TP Campus, and actively participating in a local Balkan singing group. After graduating from the Macklin Business Institute, she intends to transfer to the University of Maryland, College Park, and pursue a double major in Business and International Relations. Her hope for the future is to work one day for institutions such as the World Bank and the IMF where she would be pursuing her interest in developing markets in post-communist countries.
Jeremy Kemp (b.1978) graduated from high school in Gaithersburg, MD. He is currently a sophomore and enrolled in the Macklin Business Institute at Montgomery College. After completing the 1999/2000 school year, he will earn his AA degree in Business Management. He then plans to transfer to a four-year college to pursue his bachelor’s degree. After completing this degree, Jeremy plans to further his education by earning his masters degree in Business Management.
Jeremy has several hobby interests. His favorites are doing any kind of outdoors activities and reading studying the stock market. His main career goal is to become an entrepreneur in the trucking/hauling business. The path he is planning to follow to obtain this career goal is; finish college, work for a trucking business, and apply his knowledge of the stock market to invest money in low-risk mutual funds.
Andela Mala (b. 1973) attended high school in Dvur( Kralove n. L., Czech Republic. She earned a certificate in Travel Business Management from the College of Travel Business and Languages in Semily, Czech Republic. She has lived in England, where she gained a certificate in English from Cambridge University. She has experience working for international companies in Prague, Czech Republic, in real estate and the travel business; she has also worked as a translator of Czech and English in Prague and Philadelphia.
Her major interest is in learning languages and experiencing other cultures, and she wishes to earn a bachelor’s degree in international business from the University of Maryland. Andela has an entrepreneurial spirit, and her goal is to set up her own agency providing translating, language training and business consulting services.
Mohamed Reda (b.1975) graduated from Descartes high school in Algiers, Algeria. He earned a B.A. in Translation from the University of Algiers. He is currently enrolled in Montgomery College, Takoma Park, majoring in Business. He has served as vice-president of Business Leaders of Tomorrow, in charge of Marketing (Spring 1999). He left his native country, Algeria, in 1999, where he served as President of Class at the Institute of Translation for 4 years. He also served as a teacher at the Algerian Language Center where he taught English to high school students. He is a good mixer and never hesitates to help his class-mates, thus he was involved in a tutoring program set by Business Leaders of Tomorrow, which included Accounting, Introduction to Business and Pre-Calculus. Being the son of a Diplomat, he earned an extensive living and traveling experience in all of Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. He counts reading, listening to music, and web-surfing among his hobbies.
Fadwa Natour (b. 1970) attended high school and Tel-Aviv University in Israel and worked as a registered nurse and social worker there until 1993. She has been attending Montgomery College since 1996 and has received awards for outstanding academic achievement and has been inducted into Phi Theta Kappa in the Fall 1998 semester. She is interested in graduating from business school and working in a multi-cultural environment and experience the international business finance field. She speaks several languages and enjoys learning. Fadwa truly believes; "the sky is the limit and you can achieve anything you set your mind to."
Tunmbi (b. 1982) graduated from a prestigious high school in Lagos, Nigeria in 1998. He presently attends the Montgomery College, where he intends to get an Associate of Arts degree in Business, with the sole aim of transferring to a four-year college to finish his business education. Furthermore, his next goal is to attend Law School. During his first semester at Montgomery College, he has attempted not only to get an education but to also serve the student community. He is the Advertising Editor/Staff Writer for the Takoma Park Campus newspaper; he is also a founding member/Secretary of the Business Leaders of Tomorrow. In addition, he also plays a key role in the Christian fellowship. He is a lively and intelligent young man, who is aspiring for greatness. In addition, he is also a man after Gods heart. He is best described as one who does not believe in only religion, but in having a complete relationship with god.
Asiya (b 1980) was raised in Siberia, Russia. Besides school, growing up she was heavily involved with arts, music and dance, attending Academy of Music and Dance for eight years. Her family moved to United States four years ago, when her father started working for the National Institutes of Health. She graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville in 1998. Her interest in law led her to become a part of Richard Montgomery Mock Trial team, which went to Maryland State finals that year. She also joined Richard Montgomery Pom-Pom Dancing Squad, which, in 1998, placed first in Montgomery County in Division III. She currently works at Zaruba Gallery where she is able to experience and learn different aspects of running a business, such as advertising and marketing, retail and accounting. Because of her strong interest in law, in the spring of 1999, Asiya co-founded and became the president of the pre-law club at Montgomery College, Rockville Campus. In the future Asiya would like to be involved in both business and law, as she is interested in legal business counseling, and business structure and development. Asiya is currently interning at a Rockville law office.
John (b. 1982) is a 1998 graduate of Wheaton Christian
High School where he was an honor student and has attended Montgomery College
since 1998. He is interested in an accounting major and has a long-term
goal of becoming a CPA and is currently interning at a Rockville CPA firm..
John also enjoys chemistry and reading.
During his spare time he likes to backpack in West Virginia.
Eshe Terry (b. 1979) graduated from Seneca Valley High School in Germantown, MD. She is currently attending Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, as a full-time student. Eshe’s major is Accounting/ Business Management. As well as pursuing a degree in accounting she hopes to obtain both a hair and chef license. In addition to attending school she is also working at Bechtel Corp and The Sports Authority part-time. Eshe’s plans for the future are to transfer to The University of Maryland, College Park. After getting her degree she plans to start her own accounting firm, and a few other small businesses.
Oana Udrea (b. 1979) graduated from high school in Chalmette, LA. She is currently taking business classes at Montgomery College, in Maryland. The dedication and persistence she has shown during her academic year at Montgomery College won her acceptance to the Macklin Business Institute. As a result of academic excellence during her first year of college, she was included on the Dean’s list.
Oana is planning to pursue a career in the finance field and work at the New York Stock Exchange. Besides achieving academic excellence, she takes pride in serving her community by volunteering at a rehabilitation center and long care facility. Presently, she is holding a part-time job as a Student Assistant, in Montgomery College bookstore. She enjoys listening to 70’s music, playing volleyball, speaking Spanish, and writing to her friends in Romania.
